Muscat: Indian School Al Ghubra organised a leadership training camp for the Scouts and Guides of the Indian schools, with the motto ‘Leadership is based on inspiration, not determination, on cooperation, not intimidation’, recently on the school premises.
It was inaugurated by G. Sreekumar, the vice principal of ISG. The other dignitaries present were Jacob Zacharias, the Chief Commissioner and Felcy Fernandes the Secretary of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Oman Chapter. They were accorded a warm welcome by the camp in charge Maura Gomes and Sreekumar.
The event began with Zacharias addressing the gathering. He encouraged the students to participate in the event enthusiastically. It was followed by the ‘Report for the Day’, which was read out by Gomes and the handing over of the badges to the Scouts and Guides.
The Scouts and Guides participated in the event, which had ‘Go Green’ as its theme. A powerpoint presentation and a poem based on the theme instilled in the audience the need to preserve the environment for the welfare of mankind.
An orientation programme on leadership qualities, sessions on ‘Pioneering-knots and Lashings’, poster-making and community singing were thoroughly enjoyed by the students.
An informative session on first aid for fractures, bruises and nosebleed were conducted by the staff of the school. The participation certificates were handed over to the Scouts and Guides of various schools. The students then proceeded for community lunch as part of the Scouts and Guides fellowship programme.
In keeping with the spirit of the Scouts and Guide Movement, the fellowship continued with an array of cultural events, which enthralled the audience. The various participating schools showcased their talents in the form of skits, street play, dances and foot tapping songs. This brought out the essence of Bharat Scouts and Guides as well as the rich and diverse culture of India.
The session concluded with the handing over of the flag to the camp in charges Gomes and Akbar Hussain. Through such camps, the Scouts and Guides get an opportunity to hone leadership skills and face challenging situations with courage and fortitude.
