Muscat: Bank Muscat, the flagship financial services provider in the Sultanate, in line with its vision ‘To serve you better, everyday’ and commitment to partnership in social responsibility, marked the start of the holy month of Ramadan with the successful completion of its annual Tadhamun programme in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development.
Aimed at reaching out to social welfare families across the Sultanate and supporting them with essential household appliances to cope with the arid weather conditions, the programme focuses on distribution of basic electronic home appliances, including air-conditioners and refrigerators, to beneficiary families.
The Tadhamun convoy of vehicles carrying the bank’s employees and volunteers distributed basic electronic home appliances to over 140 beneficiary families in the governorates of Muscat, Dakhiliyah, Dhahirah and Sharqiyah.
The Tadhamun initiative is a fine example of the public-private partnership launched by the bank in association with the Ministry of Social Development to support deserving families. Committed to sustainable development, the bank utilises every opportunity for partnership in building the nation by creating opportunities for individuals and communities to grow and prosper. The bank works closely with local communities with the aim of improving living standards in a manner that complements the national economy.
Bank Muscat has lined up a series of programmes under the banner of 'Ramadan Al Kheir' to benefit different segments of society during the holy month of Ramadan. As part of the bank’s sustainability vision, the distribution of basic home appliances to an average 150 beneficiary families every year contributes to a safe, healthy environment in which children can be raised and adults can enjoy comfortable lives. Oman experiences a sub-tropical, dry and humid climate necessitating refrigerators and air-conditioning units for the wellbeing of people. This helps the families to utilise their limited income on more important requirements.
Bank Muscat has the largest network of branches in the country, therefore staff at all levels are encouraged to join CSR initiatives benefiting families in their areas. Over the years, the Tadhamun programme has distributed refrigerators, freezers, air-conditioning units, washing machines, ovens/cooking ranges and TVs to beneficiary families across the Sultanate. The bank has also renovated homes belonging to social welfare families.
Bank Muscat is a pioneer of CSR activities in the banking sector in Oman. Reflecting the corporate ethos, the bank seizes every available opportunity to channel resources for creating sustainable, positive changes in communities by investing in their welfare to equip them for a better life.
The CSR and sustainability strategy pursued by Bank Muscat is focused on delivering long-term benefits to the community and the nation. The Imprints initiative launched by the bank is the first-of-its-kind in Oman in terms of its scope and reach, seeking to unite different segments of people in making a big difference in reciprocating to what the country has given them. The Imprints initiative has four key programmes to inculcate financial literacy, sustain green environment, encourage enriched lifestyle and promote sustainable tourism.
The Green Sports initiative has proven to be a thoroughly successful model for engaging the local community in establishing a modern sporting infrastructure in the country. The support to develop modern sports infrastructure across the Sultanate complements the government efforts in building a sporting nation. Making significant contributions to sustainable development, the unique Green Sports CSR initiative aimed at promoting Oman as a sporting nation by greening and developing football fields has benefited a total of 93 sports teams across the country to date in the past seven years.
Bank Muscat launched ‘Jesr al Mustaqbal’ in 2012 in execution of the directive of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to provide relevant educational and training opportunities for Omani youth to develop employable skills. The comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative is targeted at young Omanis - both male and female from social welfare families who have not been able to complete their education for various reasons. Till date, a total of 219 students have benefited from Jesr Al Mustaqbal scholarships covering diploma, vocational and bachelor degree programmes.
Since its inception, the Corporate Social Responsibility department of the flagship financial services provider in Oman has taken major strides in nurturing a socially responsible culture in the bank. All CSR programmes draw from the bank’s values of leadership and partnership, creating a positive impact on society. As the bank progresses on the path of sustainable development, new opportunities are explored. In line with the corporate ethos, bank employees are engaged in creating opportunities to help the community through various initiatives.
