Three arrested, fined for violating consumer protection laws in Oman

Muscat: Three people in the Al Dakhiliyah governorate have been sentenced to prison and fined a total of OMR5,400 for selling expired tyres, the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) announced.
PACP said that the Court of First Instance in Nizwa issued judicial verdicts against the violators of the Consumer Protection Act 66/2014.
According to officials, two of the accused were arrested for selling tyres that were beyond their expiry date and were fined OMR2,000 each. The second person was also convicted of hiring an expat worker who was not authorised to work and was fined and additional OMR1,000. The third defendant was convicted of working for someone who wasn’t his sponsor. He was sentenced to prison for one month and fined OMR400.
The General Authority for Consumer Protection calls on all merchants and suppliers to abide by the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulations and the decisions issued by the Authority and to adhere to transparency and credibility; to stay away from misleading advertisements and false advertising when promoting goods and services.
