Muscat: The Transport and Logistics Sector Committee of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) held a meeting on Wednesday under the chair of Hamad bin Salim Al Buaiqi, Head of the Committee.
The meeting discussed a circular issued by the competent authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stating that no cargo was allowed to cross the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia unless it was loaded with sealed containers that can be easily stacked and monitored during the transit process except for goods that cannot be placed in containers or that are too big for the containers.
The meeting referred to the statement of the General Authority of Customs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that many of the trucks used between the GCC countries for the purpose of transit do not meet the minimum conditions of transit transport and that there is exploitation of the facilities granted by the transit agreement between the Arab League countries and non-compliance of transit trucks with the conditions and specifications stipulated in Article (11) of this Agreement.
The Committee called upon the companies and institutions specialised in transport to abide by the terms and conditions mentioned in the agreement to benefit from the provided facilities.
