
Muscat: The number of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) at Riyada, the Public Authority for SME Development, has grown from 31,835 to 36,433 between the end of 2017 and the end of October this year.
According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information, the number of SMEs registered in Muscat alone grew from "10,260 SMEs by the end of 2017 to 11,976 organisations", which means that the governorate has seen a growth of 1,716 companies during this period alone. Northern Al Batinah came second after Muscat, as it registered 5,617 SMEs until the start of November 2018, compared to 4,897 SMEs until the end of 2017. This is an increase of 720 companies.
In Al Dakhiliyah, 505 new businesses registered with Riyada, with the number increasing to 4,839 businesses, while the number of SMEs in Dhofar increased by 306, from 2,810 to 3,116.
Southern Al Batinah saw 351 new SMEs during the same period, with a high of 2,710 compared to 2,359 businesses at the end of 2017. In Northern Al Sharqiya, the number of SMEs with Riyada rose to 2,525 compared to 2,236 in 2017.
Finally, Al Dhahira saw an increase of 224 SMEs, with the number rising to 2,276 SMEs, while 270 new SMEs were registered in Southern Al Sharqiya, with the number reaching 2,118 compared to 1,848 SMEs in 2017. In Al Buraimi, 731 SMEs were registered until the end of October 2018 compared to 570 SMEs until the end of 2017.
