Temperatures drop as town in Oman records 2.4 degrees Celsius

Muscat: Parts of Oman have recorded temperatures as low as two degrees, as reported in the latest weather forecasts.
The town of Saiq, which is located in the Dakhiliyah Governorate, recorded a night-time temperature of 2.4 degrees, according to reports from the meteorological department at the Public Authority for Civil Aviation.
Several other locations also recorded single-digit temperatures, with Mazyunah (9.4 degrees), Maqshin (9.6 degrees) and Yanqul (9.9 degrees), all displaying minimum temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius.
In addition, Sunaiyna in the Buraimi Governorate reported a minimum temperature of 11.1 degrees, while Qairoon Hiriti recorded temperatures of 10.8 degrees.
Jabal Shams
Temperatures at Oman’s highest mountain range, Jabal Shams, have also dropped considerably. “It is really freezing at night,” said a resident of Jabal Shams.
Jabal Shams, part of the Al Hajar Mountain range and situated at an altitude of 3,004 metres above sea level, has recorded a low of -8 degrees Celsius in the recent past.
The National Multi Hazard Early Warning Center at the Public Authority for Civil Aviation has forecast that the sea will remain moderate along the coastal areas of Oman and the Arabian Sea, with maximum wave heights of 2 metres.
In a caution issued by the Met department, officials said: “Reduced horizontal visibility is expected at fog formation sites.”
For its 24 hour outlook, the Met department forecast, “Mainly clear skies over most of the Sultanates governorates on
Wednesday.”
