Omani cartoon wins international prize

Muscat: Omani Cartoon “Tow Wasil” has been named Best Animated Series of 2018 at the Cairo International Animation Forum 2019.

According to Cann Studio, which produced the series, Tow Wasil won “from among more than 121 animated cartoons from more than 20 countries, and gained the Best Animated Series award and the Best Script Award.”

According to a statement issued by the organisers, “Tow Wasil is the only series to win more than one award at the forum, and the series is an Omani animated cartoon and was shown for two seasons during Ramadhan on Oman TV. Other participating countries included: KSA, Tunisia, Madagascar, France, Croatia, Russia, Germany, Austria.”

Other than Tow Wasil, an Egyptian animated film called ‘Kabthat Rieh’ (Arabic for 'Fist of Wind') won the first prize for films, 'Late Season' from Austria won the prize for best short film, and 'Carlotta’s Face' from Germany won the prize for best experimental creative work.
