Muscat: Oman’s health ministry has dismissed rumours of HIV breakout in the Sultanate with stern warning to those propagating the "false" news, officials said Wednesday.
The warning came after social media rumour claiming the infection is spreading from beauty salons and barber shops.
The health ministry officials in Wilayat Ibri said the rumours are "false" and warned people of "consequences" for misinformation which they said could cause panic and harm public peace.
HIV doesn’t transmit by shaking hands, sharing food, sharing public restrooms and swimming in the same pool as infected patients, officials said.
