Muscat: Sheikh Ali bin Nasser Al Mahrouqi, Secretary General of Majlis Al Shura has said that Majlis Al Shura has received Directives of His Majesty the Sultan which stipulated ending the fourth and last Annual Convening (2018-2019) of the 8th Term ( 2015-2019) of Majlis Al Shura effective from 14th July 2019 in accordance with Article (58bis).
The article reads: “The Council of Oman shall have a regular convening term for not less than eight months a year, which convenes at an invitation from His Majesty the Sultan during November every year, provided that the regular convening term shall not cease to continue before approval of the State Budget”.
Sheikh Al Mahrouqi expressed his delight over the Royal Care His Majesty the Sultan accorded to the Majlis Al Shura march reflected in being an efficient partner in national decision making and a factor in comprehensive development in the Sultanate of Oman.
He said that the Majlis Al Shura during its consecutive terms has been keen to play a vital legislative and regulatory role as per its powers delegated in implementation of the Royal Directives of His Majesty the Sultan in His Majesty’s Royal Speech before the Council of Oman in 2011.
Sheikh Al Mahrouqi said that by end of the 8th term (2015-2019), Majlis Al Shura has held 86 regular sessions, in which it endorsed 25 draft laws referred from the government including the State General Budget 2019, the Foreign Capital Investment Law, the Bankruptcy Law, the Privatisation Law, The Public Private Partnership Law, and the Statistics and Information Law among other laws.
During the same term, Majlis Al Shura also endorsed 42 draft agreements in the social and economic fields between the Sultanate of Oman and other countries.
This included the free trade in services agreements between the Sultanate and Arab countries, the agreement in the Sultanate’s joining the Djibouti Code of Conduct (revised), the agreement on cooperation in sea transport between the Government of Oman and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran among other agreements, he added.
“This is in addition to endorsement of 22 studies conducted by the Permanent Committees of Majlis Al Shura”, he further said.
