Muscat: To serve Bangladeshi expats in Oman, four new branches of Bangladesh Social Club (BSC) will be opened, Mohammed Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan, BSC Muscat president has said.
The branches will be located at Sohar, Sur, Buraimi and Barka, he added. The second branch of the Club was opened recently at Salalah. There are more than 590,000 Bangladeshi expats in Oman.
“The numbers are growing every month so there is an urgent need for more BSC branches in the Sultanate,” he stated.
Ever since its inception, the BSC has been very alert in responding to various cultural needs of the Bangladeshi community, and is active in finding solutions to the numerous problems faced by them, he further said. A welfare committee has been formed to help with community members’ problems, he said, ading that it also helps the needy and those involved in traffic accidents.
Election for Bangladesh social club was held at the club premises recently, where the executive members were elected: Mohammed Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan as President, Sirajul Hoque as Vice President, M.N. Amin as General Secretary, Mohammed Golam Mostafa Nizam as Joint secretary, Atiquzzaman as Treasurer, Azimul Hoque Babul as Organising Secretary, Abdur Rahim as Welfare Secretary, Rezaul Karim as Cultural Secretary, Abdus Salam as Literature Secretary, Abul Bashar Sarkar as Sports Secretary, Nuruddin Zahed Chowdhury as Publicity Secretary and Mohammed Anwar Hossain as Honourable Member.
Safia Al Umairy, head of the community club, Ministry of Social Development was chief guest.
