Do not halve guarantee period for domestic workers: Omanis say in online poll

Muscat: A considerable majority of respondents to a survey are against reducing the guarantee period for domestic workers, from 180 days to 90 days, the Ministry of Manpower has revealed.

The online poll, which saw more than 9,000 responses, asked Omanis if they supported the halving of the guarantee period for domestic workers according to specific controls.

According to the Ministry, 95 per cent of those who responded voted no while 4.9 per cent agreed. 22 per cent of respondents, in the comments section, asked the Ministry to increase the probation period to one or two years instead.

The comments section of this poll also saw people asking the Ministry to specify the cost of hiring domestic workers. Others requested more legal rights for employers.
