Muscat: An Asian woman was arrested by Royal Oman Police (ROP) at Muscat International Airport for allegedly smuggling marijuana into Muscat.
“The woman was trying to smuggle three kilogrammes of marijuana into Muscat through the airport. Two others who were waiting for her were also arrested,” the ROP said in a statement.
Two male Asian nationals were also arrested along with her.
Officials said that the woman tried to smuggle two bags of marijuana, while the other two suspects were apprehended as they were awaiting the bags.
181 infiltrators deported, 352 detained
The Royal Oman Police, in cooperation with military and security authorities, last week arrested 71 infiltrators of different nationalities.
Those arrested included 31infiltrators in North Al Batinah, 25 in Buraimi, 11 in Dhofar, 2 infiltrators in South Al Batinah, 1 in North Al Sharqiyah and 1 in South Al Sharqiyah Governorates. Officials report that 181 were deported to their countries through Muscat International Airport.
Also, an official from the ROP said that legal procedures for deportations are being finalized for 352 infiltrators throughout different governorates of the Sultanate.
Expats arrested for Possession of Banned Tobacco and Alcohol
The Directorate General of Inquiries and Investigations arrested three Asians for allegedly possessing banned tobacco and alcohol.
Some 316 packets of smoking tobacco and three bags of chewing tobacco were seized, along with 70 canned and bottled alcoholic beverages.
The three suspects were referred to the public prosecution to complete legal procedures.
