Muscat: A medical visa is no longer mandatory for Omani and non-Indian nationals in the Sultanate who require medical care while visiting India.
However, the Embassy of India in the Sultanate of Oman has said that although medical treatment can be provided under other visas, it is advised that those who are travelling to India specifically for healthcare do so under a medical visa.
“The government of India has introduced a liberalised visa regime to benefit Indian visa holders to avail medical facilities in India,” said a statement from the Indian embassy. “Per the new regime, there is no need to change the original visa, such as tourist or business, to a medical visa to take in-patient treatment for up to six months or for permitted stay durations.”
The stay duration in each visit is restricted to 90 days on certain visas and does not include organ transplant.
The embassy added, “Visa holders can use this facility for pre-existing diseases also. However, visitors are advised to take a medical visa, if the primary objective of the visit is to take medical treatment.”
The Indian government has also released several new forms of electronic tourist visas. A five-year multiple entry e-tourist visa now costs $80, while a single year multiple entry tourist e-visa costs $40. A month-long double-entry visa between the months of July and March costs $25, while a 30-day double entry visa between April and June costs $10.
All of these visa processes are subject to handling and processing fees and other charges.
