Indian schools in Oman to have common textbook policy

Muscat: The Indian Schools’ Board of Directors (BoD) has decided to introduce common text books in all Indian Schools from the next academic year.
Speaking to the Times of Oman (TOO), Wilson George, chairman, BoD of Indians Schools in Oman, said it was decided during a recent meeting that common text books in all community Indian Schools would be introduced.
“Consequently, a meeting of principals of the community schools in the capital area was called in December 2015 and strategies to implement it during the ensuing academic year was chalked out,” he told TOO.
The schools that have books in stock will be geared up with the common text book policy after the next academic year. “Accordingly, these schools will only be able to carry out a partial implementation of the policy in the forthcoming academic year,” he added.
He also said: “The decision of the Board will be a boon to parents, whose children will be transferred from one school to another due to their change of job and residential location.”
The common textbook policy will also entail common pricing of books.
“The Board’s decision to streamline the prices will benefit parents, who used to pay different prices for different publications. It was pending for a long time. The decision has already been communicated to all Indian schools in Oman and this is in the process of implementation,” he added.
The BoD of Indian Schools in Oman is the apex body of 19 Indian schools in the Sultanate of Oman, which have more than 44,000 students on their rolls.
