Five members elected to Indian schools board of directors’ in Oman

Muscat: Five out of the 10 candidates who gained top five positions have been elected to the Indian school board of directors’ (BoD) new term on Saturday.
According to unofficial results from sources, Wilson V George bagged 467 votes and came in the top position.
The second position was occupied by Mohammad Sabir Raza Faizi with 387 votes, Baby Samuel Kutty in third position with 351 votes, Dr. Chandrahas K Anchan in fourth position with 337 votes and Peri Jagannadha Mani in fifth position with 249 votes.
The other candidates who lost to gain the top five positions are Mohammad Basheer (181 votes), who was the former finance director in the BoD, Shameer Pookaprath Thazha Kuniyil (246), Thomas Philip (138), AjaykummarJanardhanan Pilaai (104) and Kumar Vembu (140), all fresh candidates.
There were 37 invalid votes, sources said.
According to sources, 2,737 exercised their franchise in the election. This is the third election since the process was adopted in 2011.
Out of the 15 member board, rest 10 are non-elected members, including four from two promoter schools, one each from Indian school Muscat and Darsait, two embassy nominees, one embassy official and one education advisor from the board.
In the coming days, the elected and nominated members will be selecting the chairman from the elected members either unanimously or through internal voting.
The voting took place at the Indian School Muscat (ISM) building in Darsait from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. Votes were counted by the authorities, under the supervision of a Ministry of Education representative.
