Omani expert wins Arab Women’s Excellence Award in environmental action

Muscat: Dr. Thuraya Said Al Sariri has received the Arab Women’s Excellence Award (4th Edition) in appreciation for her outstanding contributions in the field of environment action.

As an ecology activist, Dr. Thuraya Al Sariri merited the award due to her consistent efforts to protect the environment and promote sustainability.

Currently acting as Assistant Director General for Nature Conservation at the Environment Authority (EA), Dr. Thuraya Al-Sariri represents the Sultanate of Oman at many meetings and councils, including the UNESCO’s International Coordinating Council for Man and Biosphere Reserves (MAB-ICC).

She also figures among Oman’s nature experts who are members of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, besides being Head of the Specialized Group of Plant Experts for the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Dr. Thuraya Al-Sariri headed many national teams, most notably the technical team tasked with preparing Oman’s environmental strategy, the technical team for the “National Initiative to Plant 10 Million Trees” and the governance team entrusted with liaising Oman’s participation in the 29th Climate Summit.

Dr. Thuraya Al-Sariri also contributed to projects that gave rise to the proclamation of nature reserves in Oman.
