Dakar: Represented by the State Council, the Sultanate of Oman took part in the 54th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Dakar, Republic of Senegal.
Mohammed Salim Al Harthy, Member of the State Council, headed the Omani delegation at the meeting.
The session was opened by Malick Ndiaye, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Senegal.
The session saw the election of the Parliamentary Union’s vice-presidents (Arab and Asian sides), discussed follow-up reports and reviewed the schedule of upcoming panel meetings.
The representatives of participating delegations discussed major issues and challenges facing the Islamic world, notably the Palestinian cause. They stressed the need to rally efforts to halt Israel’s ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people and its breach of international law. They also called for practical steps to establish peace and stability in the Middle East region.
The meeting was aimed to coordinate member states’ parliamentary stands and enhance legislative and oversight cooperation to support the cause of the Islamic nation. It also underlined the importance of consolidating the values of dialogue and joint action to address regional and international challenges.
