Montreal: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) announced the nomination of Eng. Naif Ali Al Abri, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), as the President of the 42nd Session of the General Assembly. The session commenced today at the organization's headquarters in Montreal, Canada, with the participation of 193 member states and 18 international organizations specialized in the civil aviation sector.
Eng. Al Abri affirmed that assuming the presidency of the Assembly reflects the international community's confidence in the Sultanate of Oman and its achievements in the field of civil aviation. He stressed the importance of international cooperation to address current challenges.
He explained that the civil aviation sector requires an acceleration of the pace of digital transformation, a reduction in emissions, and the enhancement of safety and security frameworks while ensuring fairness, sustainability, and economic resilience. He emphasized the importance of cooperation among states to build a safer, more sustainable, and interconnected global aviation system.
The deliberations of the General Assembly includes discussing a number of issues and files related to aviation safety, security, and environmental protection, in addition to geopolitical challenges and their implications on the future of the global civil aviation sector.
