Muscat: In a landmark achievement that strengthens Oman’s position in the regional fintech landscape, Thawani has been granted an official license by global payments leader Visa to issue credit cards. This makes Thawani the first Omani fintech company to receive such a prestigious international accreditation.

The license marks a significant milestone in Oman’s payments sector, enabling Thawani to launch a comprehensive suite of Visa-backed credit cards. These cards offer users in Oman a secure and fully digital experience, allowing them to apply for, manage, and monitor their credit activity seamlessly through the Thawani smart app. The cards also feature global acceptance at point-of-sale terminals and e-commerce platforms, along with advanced encryption and smart authentication technologies to ensure high levels of security. Additionally, users will benefit from tailored rewards and offers designed to meet the needs of both individuals and businesses in the Omani market.

The licensing agreement was celebrated during an official ceremony held in Muscat, attended by senior executives from Visa and Thawani, as well as representatives from the banking and financial sectors. The event underscored the growing role of fintech in driving innovation and financial inclusion across Oman.

Engineer Majid Al Amri, Founder and CEO of Thawani, described the achievement as a pivotal moment in the company’s journey and in Oman’s fintech sector. “Receiving a license from Visa to issue credit cards not only reinforces Thawani’s reputation as a trusted and innovative company, but also reflects our vision of building a smarter, more inclusive, and accessible financial future,” he said.

Al Amri added, “At Thawani, we aim to connect innovation with empowerment, offering individuals and institutions digital solutions that elevate their experience and open new horizons—drawing inspiration from Oman’s ambition to lead in fintech regionally and globally.”

Commenting on the milestone, Nasser Bdeir, Visa’s General Manager in Oman, said Thawani’s achievement represents a major step forward in the evolution of Oman’s fintech sector. He praised the strength of local innovation and the growing demand for digital solutions, affirming Visa’s pride in supporting this transformation by expanding access to secure and reliable digital payment tools across the region.
