Muscat: The Royal Oman Police has warned of fraudulent activities involving a fake website impersonating the official website of the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA).
The General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Research stated that it has observed an increase in scams where perpetrators use a counterfeit website that closely mimics the design and content of the Consumer Protection Authority’s official platform.
Victims are lured with false claims of prizes or gifts, after which their personal and banking information is unlawfully obtained and used to withdraw funds from their accounts.
The Royal Oman Police emphasised the importance of verifying the authenticity of websites before entering any personal or financial information, stressing that the Consumer Protection Authority does not request bank card details when providing its services.
The public is urged to exercise caution and report any suspected fraudulent activity to the relevant authorities.
