Muscat: The competent court has convicted a commercial establishment in the Muscat Governorate for failing to provide a service in accordance with agreed standards, following the referral of the case by the Consumer Protection Authority to the Public Prosecution.
According to case details, a consumer had contracted with the establishment to purchase a used engine for his vehicle for OMR 390, with a one-month warranty. However, the supplier failed to deliver the engine within the agreed timeframe and requested that the consumer repair the vehicle at another workshop at his own expense.
Upon being summoned, the representative of the establishment stated that the engine had been secured, but claimed the consumer refused to receive it due to the delay. The case file was subsequently referred to the Public Prosecution to complete the necessary legal procedures.
The court convicted the supplier of a misdemeanor for failing to provide the service in a proper manner, as well as a second misdemeanor for failing to issue an invoice in Arabic. The court imposed a fine of OMR 500 for the first charge and OMR 300 for the second, with the lesser penalty merged into the more severe one.
