Oman sizzles under intense summer heat; mercury crosses 50°C

Muscat: The summer heat has broken new thresholds in the Sultanate of Oman, with temperatures crossing the 50-degree mark. According to the latest 24-hour data released on Thursday, June 4, 2026, by the Civil Aviation Authority’s meteorological stations, the Wilayat of Mahout recorded a blistering peak of 50.4°C, marking the highest temperature registered nationwide.

The severe heat wave has heavily impacted several other wilayats, pushing temperatures across multiple regions deep into the high 40s. Dima Wa Tayeen followed closely with a scorching 49.4°C, while Bidiyah reached 48.7°C and Fahud recorded 48.6°C. Other areas experiencing extreme summer conditions include Um Al Zamaim at 48.5°C, Al Mudhaibi at 48.3°C, Al Qabil at 48.1°C, and Al Jazir at 48.0°C. Meanwhile, Samail registered 47.9°C, Haima hit 47.6°C, and Ibra rounded out the list at 47.3°C.
