Oman Electricity Transmission Company wins Sukuk Deal of the Year award

Muscat--- Oman Electricity Transmission Company, a member of Nama Group, has won the Sukuk Deal of the Year for Sovereign and Sovereign-Linked Entities award at the Global Banking & Markets Awards.

The recognition was awarded for its issuance of $750 million, five-year green sukuk, an achievement that enhances its leadership in the field of sustainable finance in the Sultanate of Oman and the region.

The green sukuk issuance represents a pivotal step in developing the sustainable finance ecosystem in the Sultanate of Oman and raising capital to build an environmentally responsible infrastructure.

The issuance also reflects the commitment of Oman Electricity Transmission Company and Nama Group as a whole to supporting economic diversification efforts and the transition toward a low-carbon energy system.

The proceeds of the issuance will be directed toward financing and refinancing eligible green projects, which include the integration of renewable energy sources, the modernization of transmission networks, and energy efficiency initiatives. These are essential elements for achieving the Sultanate of Oman's targets of reaching 30 percent renewable energy by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050.

The deal attracted significant interest from regional and international investors, establishing a benchmark for future green and sustainable issuances from the Sultanate of Oman.

Ahmed Amer Al Mahrizi, Chief Executive Officer of Nama Group, stated that this recognition reflects the robustness of the transition path toward a more sustainable and resilient energy future in the Sultanate of Oman. He emphasized that the success of Oman Electricity Transmission Company's green sukuk affirms the confidence of global investors in the national utilities and the Sultanate of Oman's long-term vision to reduce emissions.

He added that the company, within Nama Group, continues to enable innovative financing solutions that support the transition toward clean energy, enhance grid reliability, and serve the economic diversification goals of Oman Vision 2040.

For his part, Saad Niyaz, General Manager of Corporate Finance at Nama Holding, stated that the green sukuk constitutes a significant milestone in the group's sustainable finance journey. He pointed out that the strong demand from investors confirms the role of Oman Electricity Transmission Company and its strategy in enabling the integration of renewable energy and supporting the Sultanate of Oman's net-zero targets.

The green sukuk for Oman Electricity Transmission Company was issued within the company's Green Finance Framework, which aligns with international best practices, including the Green Bond Principles issued by the International Capital Market Association.

This framework reflects the company's structured approach to integrating sustainability into its financing strategy while simultaneously ensuring transparency and measuring the environmental impact.

As the sole owner and operator of the electricity transmission network in the Sultanate of Oman, Oman Electricity Transmission Company continues its pivotal role in enabling the integration of renewable energy into the national grid and enhancing the resilience of the electricity sector.
