Over 5.2mn passengers travel through Oman airports by end of May 2026

Muscat: The total number of passengers traveling through the airports of the Sultanate of Oman reached 5.25 million by the end of May 2026, representing a decrease of 9.3 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2025, which was at 5.79 million passengers, according to the latest data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The total number of international flights (arrivals and departures) through Muscat, Salalah, and Sohar airports also reached 31,867 by the end of May 2026, declining by 10.7 percent compared to 35,679 flights during the same period of 2025.

The statistics showed that Muscat International Airport recorded a decline in the total number of flights (international and domestic) to reach 34,242 flights, representing a drop of 8.2 percent compared to 37,307 flights during the corresponding period of 2025. The number of passengers also decreased by 8.5 percent to reach 4,764,340, compared to 5,207,005 passengers by the end of May 2025.

Meanwhile, at Salalah Airport, the total number of flights (international and domestic) reached 3,234 by the end of May 2026, a decrease of 13 percent compared to 3,717 flights during the corresponding period of last year. The number of passengers also declined by 15.9 percent to reach 468,797, compared to 557,298 passengers.

Sohar Airport witnessed a decline in flight traffic, with total flights (international and domestic) reaching only 50 by the end of May 2026, compared to 82 flights during the corresponding period of last year, a decrease of 39 percent. The number of passengers also dropped by 48.5 percent to reach 173, compared to 336 passengers.

Domestic flight traffic at Duqm Airport decreased by 13.3 percent to reach 222 flights by the end of May 2026, compared to 256 flights during the corresponding period of last year. The number of passengers also decreased by 19.3 percent, recording 20,476, compared to 25,371 passengers during the corresponding period of last year.

Regarding passenger traffic through Muscat International Airport during the month of May 2026, Indian nationals topped the list of most active nationalities on arrivals and departures, with a total of 175,022 passengers, including 76,515 arrivals and 98,507 departures. Omani nationals followed in second place with 80,732 passengers, including 40,955 arrivals and 39,777 departures, while Pakistani nationals came in third place with 45,956 passengers, including 20,723 arrivals and 25,233 departures.
