Muscat: The Preliminary Qualification Committee for the 34th edition of Sultan Qaboos Holy Quran Competition concluded its work on Thursday at the Centre of the Wilayat of A’Seeb.
The competition is organised by the Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Sciences at the Diwan of Royal Court across 28 centres in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
Yousef Mohammed Al Balushi, Deputy Chairman of the Preliminary and Final Qualification Committees for the competition, stated that the number of participants at A’Seeb Centre reached 271 male and female contestants across the competition's seven levels. He noted that the qualifiers took place in the lecture hall of Sayyida Fatima bint Ali Mosque in Al Hail.
He added that the Preliminary Qualification Committee will begin its work early next week at the centres of the Wilayats of Bahla and Samail, after which it will proceed with follow-up visits to the remaining centers across the various governorates.
He pointed out that the committee will select 8 qualifiers from each level to advance to the final qualifiers, which are scheduled to commence in December of this year.
The competition comprises seven progressive levels, distributed as follows: complete memorisation of the Holy Quran; memorization of 24 parts; 18 parts; 12 parts for those born in 2001 and above; 6 parts for those born in 2012 and above; 4 consecutive parts for those born in 2016 and above; and memorization of 2 consecutive parts for those born in 2019 and above.
It is worth noting that the competition aims to instill spiritual values, develop Quranic skills, encourage honorable competition, and highlight the dedication to the Book of Allah the Almighty, as well as the nurturing of youth and talented individuals in its memorization and recitation.
