
Muscat: The number of new and renewed vehicle driving licences issued in Oman reached approximately 527,830 by the end of 2025, up from 500,738 in 2024 and 338,990 in 2021.
Of the total issued in 2025, 136,491 were new licences and 391,339 were renewed licences.
Omanis accounted for 227,718 new and renewed vehicle driving licences, while expatriates accounted for 300,112 licences.
Meanwhile, Oman’s paved road network continued to expand over the past five years, reaching 45,659 kilometres by the end of 2025, compared with 40,546 kilometres in 2021, according to data from the 2026 Statistical Yearbook issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The data showed that single roads accounted for 41,478 kilometres, while dual roads extended for 4,182 kilometres. The total length of paved roads was reported at 44,079 kilometres by the end of 2025.
At the governorate level, Al Dakhiliyah recorded the largest share of paved roads at 480 kilometres, followed by Muscat with 425 kilometres and Al Dhahirah with 120 kilometres.
For single roads, Dhofar ranked first with 383 kilometres, followed by North Al Sharqiyah with 263 kilometres and South Al Batinah with 260 kilometres.
