Muscat: The National Aviation Strategy 2040 Supervisory Committee held its third meeting, chaired by H.E. Eng. Naif bin Ali Al Abri, President of the Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of the Committee, in the presence of a number of Their Excellencies and representatives of member entities from ministries, institutions and companies operating in the civil aviation sector.
During the meeting, the Committee highlighted the latest developments in the implementation of the initiatives of the National Aviation Strategy 2040 and reviewed the progress achieved across the initiatives and programs.
It also followed up on the implementation of previous decisions and recommendations, thereby strengthening the effectiveness of the governance and monitoring framework and ensuring the alignment of efforts among the various relevant entities.
The Committee followed up on the latest developments in the work of its subcommittees, foremost among them the Air Connectivity Development Committee, chaired by H.E. the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism.
The Committee has held two meetings to date to follow up on initiatives and enablers related to enhancing air connectivity, improving the efficiency of the flight network and supporting the growth of air traffic in line with the Strategy’s targets.
The Committee also reviewed the work of the Air Logistics Development Committee, chaired by H.E. the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, which held its first meeting on 8 September to follow up on initiatives and enablers related to developing the air cargo and logistics ecosystem in the Sultanate of Oman and enhancing integration among the various components of the logistics system.
The Committee reviewed passenger and air cargo traffic performance indicators through the end of August 2026, as well as the plans and programs developed to boost passenger and air cargo traffic during the final quarter of the current year and the first half of 2027.
The review underscored the importance of continuing to capitalize on the opportunities available in the aviation sector and supporting the growth of air traffic in ways that enhance the sector’s competitiveness and increase its contribution to the national economy, while supporting the Sultanate of Oman’s objectives in tourism, logistics and investment.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to advance the implementation of the National Aviation Strategy 2040 through an integrated governance framework comprising subcommittees and clear mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of initiatives and measuring progress against defined performance indicators and benchmarks. This will enhance the integration of efforts and improve implementation efficiency in achieving the strategic targets of the civil aviation sector.
The Supervisory Committee continues to monitor the implementation of the Strategy’s programs and initiatives in coordination with various relevant entities, ensuring the integration of roles and efforts across the civil aviation sector, accelerating implementation, and addressing challenges that require joint coordination among the entities concerned.
It is worth noting that the National Aviation Strategy 2040aims to build a more competitive and sustainable aviation sector and strengthen its role as a key enabler of economic diversification, while supporting the tourism, logistics, trade and investment sectors and contributing to the achievement of the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
