Muscat: Protecting children in the digital environment is a shared societal responsibility that requires public awareness, open dialogue and cooperation among stakeholders, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) said on Wednesday.
The TRA made the statement during a dialogue session titled “Protecting Children in the Digital Environment”, organised to discuss online safety challenges and explore ways to strengthen the protection of children in Oman. The session brought together parents, academics, specialists and experts in telecommunications and technology to exchange views and propose solutions tailored to the needs of Omani families and society.
Discussions focused on digital literacy, public awareness, moral guidance and potential risks in the digital landscape. The session also provided a platform for participants to share their concerns and perspectives on the challenges children and their families face online.
The TRA said the dialogue aimed to enhance transparency, promote direct communication with the public and involve users and stakeholders in developing regulatory and legislative frameworks in Oman.
An accompanying exhibition showcased initiatives and tools designed to protect children in digital environments, including technical measures to minimise cyber risks and reduce exposure to unsafe online content.
The TRA said it would review and analyse the recommendations, insights and proposals gathered during the session to help develop a comprehensive regulatory framework that strengthens child protection and promotes a safe and reliable digital environment. The initiative reflects the authority’s commitment to working with the public and relevant stakeholders to build a safer and more empowered digital society.
