Muscat: Oman's role in promoting the culture of tolerance has been hailed once more.
Al Wafd portal (www.alwafd.org ) has said that a number of international reports recently issued worldwide, have highlighted the Sultanate's efforts in the field of dissemination of the culture of religious tolerance.
Al Wafd stated that the report released by the US Department of State for 2016 has reaffirmed that the Sultanate – in response to the Royal Directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said – has extended positive and effective efforts to this end.
The website of Al Wafd pointed to that the Sultanate has made available the laws and legislation which aim to guarantee the rights for exercising religious rituals.
The report of the US Department of State has showed that the Sultanate's Basic Law has stated that "Islam is the religion of the State and that the Islamic Sharia is the source of all legislations".
The Sultanate's laws and legislation have penalised abuse of religious values, the report added.
