Muscat: A number of expats have been arrested for fraud after being found manufacturing furniture from old and used wood, the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) has announced.

The arrests were made in cooperation with Public Prosecution and Barka Police Station after PACP received reports of expat workers storing and manufacturing furniture at a farm in the Wilayat of Barka.
The farm was raided by Royal Oman Police, and resulted in the arrest of the expats in addition to the illegal items being seized.
The items included sofas made of used wood, sewing machines, an electric and manual saw, as well as cutting and drilling tools.
The Assistant Director of the Barka Department, Yousuf bin Ahmed Al Riyami, said: “The authority is continuing to combat commercial fraud and to protect the consumer from criminals who only care about a quick profit.”
He also advised all consumers to notify the authority if they spot criminal activities so that fraud and other illegal practices can be reduced.
