Cyclone Kyarr: Parts of Oman witness varying degrees of rainfall

Muscat: Several governorates in Oman are witnessing rainfall as an indirect effect of Tropical Cyclone Kyarr, according to the Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA).

On Tuesday, about 47 families were moved from their homes in wilayat Saham in north Al Batinah governorate.

Awadh Al Mandhari, wali of Saham said: "Due to the high tide of the sea, water entered the houses near the coast and became unsuitable for housing, so 47 families were relocated from their homes to other houses and we coordinated with the Ministry of Housing to expedite the delivery of the keys to their new homes that were built as compensation for the coastal road which were already completed."

In a statement, PACA said: "Currently the prevalence and flow of rain clouds has resulted in rainfall of varying intensity in South Al Sharqiyah, Muscat and parts of Al Sharqiyah North and Al Dakhlyah Governorate.”

"The high tide between the hours of 9.00 to 11.00 am Wednesday morning and 10.00 pm to 12.00 pm at night coincides with the high waves in Oman Sea that are about three to three and a half metres and high waves in the Arabian Sea are six to eight metres high, which leads to the entry of sea water in low-lying coastal areas,” PACA added.
