Oman Across Ages Museum hosts Architecture Revival Initiative

Muscat: The initiative to revive Omani architecture, and showcase associated innovation with the architectural design concluded at Oman Across Ages Museum in the wilayat of Manah on Saturday.

The initiative, organised by the Office of His Highness Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, continued from February 19 to February 22.

The Architecture Revival Initiative is in pursuance of the first and second editions of the Bilarab Bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design, in addition the competition to design Oman Pavilion at Expo 2025 Japan.

The initiative targets various sectors of society related with architectural design in the Sultanate of Oman, including specialists, experts and students involved in the field.

The programme has received the attention of His Highness Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, who decided to boost its awareness for being one of the important components of the national identity.

The initiative showcased in the corner of Bilarab bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design displays the achievements and gives an interactive experience for revitalisation of architecture.

The corner provides the visitors with the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the stages of the first and second editions of Bilarab Award for Architectural Design; the winning projects of the initiative and the projects winning the competition on the design of the Sultanate’s pavilion in Expo 2025 Japan.

The first edition of the award dealt with development of the designated site at Hayy Al Mina in the wilayat of Muttrah located between the seafront and Muttrah Fish Market with a total area of 7,500 sq. metres.

The second edition of the award introduced a competition on the design of the Sultanate’s pavilion at Expo 2025 Japan, the winners of which is a team comprising Bayan bint Masalam Al Ramadani; Ammar Abudulhamid Al Kiyomi; and Nairah bint Khamis Al Hinai.

The team employed the idea of Omani falajs in their project.

The video presentation, screened during the ceremony , took the visitors to a journey on the first and second editions of Bilarab bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design; the project winning the design of the Sultanate’s pavilion at Expo 2025 Japan and the announcement of the third edition of Bilarab bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design, scheduled for the end of the current year.

The interactive experience of the initiative dealt with three key pillars in the field of architecture and revitalisation of architecture in Oman. The interactive experience reviewed some architectural expressions of the initiative for prominent Omani personalities, mainly Honourable Lady Sayyida Ahad bint Abdullah Al Busaidi, spouse of His Majesty the Sultan and His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth.
